My Cataclysm Protection Warrior wishlist

1. TC remains the same, but we get a cooldown to make it spammable (a'la how Berserk works with Mangle for druids). Its not like whelps spawn in the entire time you're in Onyxia's Lair, after all - why change the way TC works all of the time?

2. Cleave hits more targets. Even if that comes at the cost of some of the damage it does, Cleave could be another viable 'we need something for tons of adds spawning' option. Since we are losing the off-GCD Cleave (and a chunk of dps/threat, accordingly), this would be an excellent way to compensate.

3. Cooldown parity with other tanks. 5min SW and 3min Last Stand need to die (and it sounds like they are, but its still a wish) painfully.

4. A way to cast Revenge when not the one tanking/taking damage - e.g. "when the player with Vigilance takes damage, there is now a 20% chance to allow the use of your Revenge ability" or something similar. One reason protection warr. dps is so much lower when not taking damage is because we lose Revenge, which has become our hardest hitting ability.

5. Allow Shield Slam to dispell harmful magic effects off players. Yep, I said it.

6. Devastate gets a set of sound effects that don't scream "magic sprinkle-sprinkle!"

We're still iterating on the Cataclysm design of Thunder Clap. It needs to fall into a space where it isn't monotonous to AE tank while still giving warriors the tools they need to do the job.

This seems to be solving the same problem as number one.

We don't want mirror images of every ability. So while we want tank parity at a high level sense, we don't want to do that by every tank having the same tool with the same costs, cooldowns and powers. Why have different classes under that model?

I think this is a valid point.

This on the other hand seems weird to me.

And no big sword on top of the giant's head? :)

I forgot what he said about Last Stand though.

I said that we'd like to remove the glyph and just make the talent all there is. Not sure if we would use the glyphed or unglyphed cooldown yet though.

Please don't joke - that's one of the coolest things about devesate when fighting a huge boss. That sword is epic.

That's useful feedback. Usually we hear from warriors who don't like the visual.

There gets to be a point where being GCD locked is even less fun. Then you start asking for abilities to use off the GCD because you can't use anymore abilities.

We consider being GCD locked a bad thing. It doesn't give you any room in your rotation to say click a potion or respond to a proc or do something out of the ordinary. It leads to tunnel vision.

Q u o t e:
I don't have anything against critical block...if it's handled properly. Right now it looks to be pretty badly handled but that doesn't mean they won't come around and get it right.

We haven't done much with Critical Block as mastery yet because the level cap on the beta is so low and raid content isn't available to publicly test yet. As we get closer we'll put some better numbers on it.

He's on a yacht in the tropics, sitting on his THRONE OF LIES (complete with cup holder), drinking gin from a coffee mug (decorated with a picture of all ten classes wailing and gnashing their teeth), all while watching his pony peacefully wander the deck.

This.

Its funny how every prot warrior wishlist gets to the topic of AE threat. I honestly dont think there is anything wrong with warrior AE threat. The problem is other tanks have made AE threat to be too passive and they just dont havve to work hard enough for it.

I agree. We tried making warrior AE "rotations" just one button, but we didn't like it. We'll change the other classes instead.

Q u o t e:

Does this mean you intend to change the Paladin rotation up a bit? As it stands now, I never have the free GCD to use a fun raid utility while I'm tanking, let alone keep myself cleansed in 5mans

If we do one thing for class design in Cataclysm, it will be changing the paladin (all 3 specs) rotation up a bit!

Heroic Leap isn't implemented yet. The level cap isn't at 85.

Most trees are losing free stats such as Strength, hit and expertise. If you want it, you'll have to gear it. The dual-wield trees will keep some free hit.
