Rated BG's disappointing

I have wanted rated BG's for a long time. And guess what? It's not because I hate arena. I like arena and BG's though these days it seems as though people think you are one or the other.

First off let me say the old "rank up" pvp system from vanilla was awful. However it did create a couple of positive results, and those were PvP guilds and BG trains. I miss the epic premade vs premade BG's. Today PvP guilds are almost nonexistent because there is no purpose for them. You only need 1-2 other players for arena.

When I heard rated BG's were finally going to become a reality I was dancing on my desk. Then I read how they were going to implement it and I promptly fell off my desk. I had expected it to be similar to the arena ladder system.
I like the fact that you don't have to have a set team like arena because getting the same 10-25 people online to run BG's could be a pain. However the 6+ games a week cap makes the whole thing seem pointless. I expected to see the rebirth of PvP guilds, but 6 games a week isn't going to make that happen.

TLDR: I would much rather see rated BG's be in a ladder system where points are taken away for a loss then to see it implemented like a daily quest with a 6 match a week cap.

6 game cap is stupid.

What 6 game cap?

I believe he means the 6 games a week limit.

To be clear, there isn't a 6 game per week limit. I'm not sure where that misinformation came from.

If this information is inaccurate, now would be the time to share :)

Thanks, I'll have them fix that. =]

Thanks for the update Kalgan

While you are here, is there any chances you will review your stance on the "join as full group" for rated BGs.

Honestly, a big seller for BGs is the fact that you can just hop in do your thing and then leave when you have to.

I really don't want to have to commit to make a team beforehand and then queue up.

There are several reasons (these are the highlights) not to allow players to solo-queue for rated battlegrounds.

1. When players have no commitment to any other members of their team, they're much more likely to try to game the system for minimal effort (afk'ing, or near afk-ing). If they're required to form a group in advance, it implies there is a previously agreed-upon power structure in the group (somebody is the leader, and can kick players that need to be kicked).

2. If players can queue for rated battlegrounds as either solo or as a group (and any mix thereof), it becomes far more difficult to matchmake teams appropriately, or determine how difficult of a win a win was, or how significant a failure on the part of the losing players a loss was.

3. The endgame structure we have for WoW rewards for organizational effort (this is the primary reason that 25-person raids are rewarded more highly than 10-person raids). There is no organizational effort in solo-queue'ing for battlegrounds, yet the ilevel of the rewards are on par with 25-person raiding.

Because the VAST majority of the WoW subscription base is casual or simply doesn't have the time to put in the required time to obtain "hardcore" rewards.

If that were true the vast majority of the wow playerbase wouldn't be doing 10 or 25-person raid content. That isn't the case.

We do have gear and progression available for players that don't do 10 or 25 person raid content (ie: 5-person ToC, emblems of Conquest, gear available for honor without a rating requirement), and if anything that will continue to improve in Cataclysm (both for pvp and pve).

Will you add in an option in the LFG UI to find BG groups?

Yes, we intend to give players somewhere better than the trade channel to form groups.
