Enchanting: The Draenic Dust Problem

Blizzard seemed to overlook the fact that at level 100 in heroics, I come across a very limited amount of greens, starving me of dust I need for both my discovery and my work orders. As you are leveling it seems like you have an abundance, but now I pretty much only get shards.

Currently dust prices on my server are 2x that of shards and I can only see that getting worse. Seems silly that a singe dust is worth twice as much as a shard when it takes 20 dust to make 1 shard.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that they removed crafted green items over level 90. It seems like the only way to get dust is to go find random mobs to farm for hours for hopes of greens.

That being said, I think a solution is pretty simple. LET US SHARDSHATTER. Just give us a recipe to turn a shard back into dust. I don't even care how much dust, 10 would be nice and that's still only HALF of the dust cost for a shard.

Would love to hear thoughts on this, or even suggestions on how i can get a good amount of dust that I may have overlooked.

Hoping that this oversight gets patched out soon, or the dust economy is going to become disgusting.

Hey guys, I've made a post explaining recent and upcoming enchanting hotfixes. Reposting it here.

We cannot add in a new recipe without a client-side patch. We can and have made adjustments to the drop rates via a hotfix to greatly increase the chance of obtaining Draenic Dust while disenchanting a rare (blue) item. There's still a chance to obtain a Luminous Shard but the chance is no longer guaranteed.

Additionally, characters with the Enchanting profession should receive more Draenic Dust while disenchanting an item.

We're also making changes to reduce the cost of tanking and healer enchants. These hotfixes are currently undergoing testing and aren't live yet. But, I wanted to give everyone an advanced notice of what's going to happen.

  • [Still in testing] Mark of Blackrock now requires 3 Temporal Crystals (down from 15) and 5 Scorcerous Earth (down from 10).
  • [Still in testing] Mark of Shadowmoon now requires 3 Temporal Crystals (down from 15) and 5 Scorcerous Fire (down from 10).
The hotfix blog will be updated with all this info shortly.
