Hey all,
I’ve put this FAQ together to help start answering questions for players looking to compete in the World Tournament Series. Feel free to ask questions!
World Tournament Series FAQ
What is the World Tournament Series?
The World Tournament Series is an international tournament series with a total of three LAN events in the coming year, with the first event taking place in early December in Beijing, China. Teams from North America, Europe, and China will be competing. Each event has its own $50,000 prize pool. Players will qualify for the WTS by competing in online qualifier events.
How does the World Tournament Series work?
For the upcoming World Tournament Series event in Beijing, we’ll be inviting the top eight eligible teams from each region’s Tournament of Glory to participate in the World Tournament Series Invitational Qualifier. The top team from the Invitational Qualifier will travel to Beijing, China to play in the Finals. The hosting region of each event will send two teams to participate in the LAN event. (The event in Beijing will host 2 Chinese teams, 1 NA, 1 EU. First event in NA will have 2 NA teams, 1 EU, 1 CN, etc.) This allows us to run the event in a standard elimination format rather than round robin.
Each World Tournament Series event (China, NA, EU) will have its own qualifier event, meaning if you don’t compete in the first event it won’t hamper your ability to get into the next region’s event.
The tl;dr guide to playing in the World Tournament Series:
- Step one: Earn a top eight spot in the Tournament of Glory
- Step two: Assuming your team meets all eligibility requirements (listed below), take first place in the World Tournament Series Invitational
- Step three: Beat the three other teams at the World Tournament Series Finals in Beijing!
- Step four: $$$
My team is signing up for the Tournament of Glory, but we want to make sure we’re eligible for the World Tournament Series. What do we need to know?
Once your team has placed in the top eight of the Tournament of Glory, your team will be checked for eligibility before being allowed to play in the World Tournament Series Invitational Qualifier. Here are the requirements:
- All team members must be over the age of 18
- Eligible countries: European Union, Iceland, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey (for the purpose of this Tournament, residents of these countries will also be deemed part of the European Union), United States, Canada, or Mexico
- Players will need to either have residency or citizenship in the region they’re attempting to play in. For example: If you’re from NA but living in France, you can play for an NA or EU team. This should allow for greater flexibility when creating your rosters.
- Players must be able to travel China. Generally speaking, this means you need to possess a valid passport. If you’re interested in participating in the World Tournament Series, you should go ahead and get this now just to avoid any possible complications in the future.
We’ll be allowing teams up to two roster changes after the Tournament of Glory Finals to help address any eligibility issues.
I’m kind of a jerk, does that change anything?
We expect players interested in competing in the World Tournament Series to maintain a level of professionalism and courtesy towards tournament administrators and their fellow players. We reserve the right to ban players from events based on their conduct.
Glossary:
- Tournament of Glory: An open tournament that anyone can sign-up for. Top rewards include an exclusive set of tournament armor. The top eight teams from this tournament will be invited to the World Tournament Series Invitational Qualifier.

This FAQ will evolve as questions are asked and (hopefully) answered.
Player Questions
For the region that sends two teams to the WTS Finals, how are they selected?
The top two teams from that region will travel to the finals.
If I’m not personally eligible to play in the World Tournament Series, but my team places in the top eight in the Tournament of Glory, what happens?
Every top eight team from the Tournament of Glory will be allowed up to two roster changes to make their team eligible for the World Tournament Series. These substitute players can be from any team as long as they are eligible and are not a part of a different top eight team in the World Tournament Series Invitational Qualifier.
My team is from X country, can I participate in the World Tournament Series?
Only players from currently supported Guild Wars 2 regions will be able to participate in the World Tournament Series. Expect the eligible country list to be similar to Pax/gamescom. We’ll be releasing a full list soon.
Can we use our own peripherals (mouse/keyboard) at the LAN events?
It’s too early for me to commit to a definitive answer, but I do know how important this is for players. Once I know for sure, I’ll let you guys know!
