Disqualifying Team Curse (Formerly Team Paradigm)

We regret to inform the community that Team Curse (formerly Team Paradigm) has been disqualified from the Guild Wars 2 Invitational Tournament.

We have reviewed the eligibility documents provided by Team Curse with our legal team and have determined that they fielded an ineligible player during the European Regional Qualifying Tournament.

Team Curse has always demonstrated good character and has been a foundation of the PvP community. We hold Team Curse in the highest regard and have no reason to believe that they fielded an ineligible player out of malice or that they deliberately disregarded the rules. However, we must disqualify the team based on the stated rules and to be fair to other teams who complied with our eligibility requirements in forming their teams.

It is our goal to make events like this open to as many players as possible; however, we must adhere to the fact that every country or state has unique legal requirements and rules for running tournaments and awarding prizes that apply to their citizens. We will continue to look to expand upon who can participate in our tournaments in the future.

Yes, CC’s documentation all checks out. The entire team is eligible.

Hey all,

It seems like some confusing information is being tossed around in this thread, so I’d like to help clear some things up.

  • The tournament was on a very tight timescale, so it was just not possible to review the eligibility of all participating teams before the tournament kicked off.
  • Mist League did a great job in running the qualifying tournaments and are not to be blamed for this.
  • One of TP’s members is not residing in an eligible country. The rules are clearly stated on that front, hence why we had no choice but to DQ them. If we would have allowed TP to participate (even with a substitute), it would have meant bending the rules for them, which is not fair to the other teams.

We all would have wished for a smoother sailing, but this was our first tournament. We have learned a lot, and if we are taking one thing away from this, it is that there is ample room for improvement.

Also, I’d like to take this time to say thank you to the Mist League team and shoutcasters that helped with the qualifiers. You were all incredible, and it was a pleasure working with you.

Please try to understand that the intent of my post is not to place the blame on Team Curse. They were under the impression that they were eligible, and because we were all on a tight timescale, there was no time to confirm or deny that.

Like I said, there is room for improvement, and we will no doubt exercise our learning experiences here next time around.

edit: The last bullet point in my previous post was meant to address the fact that people were making it seem like we made a choice to DQ them. We didn’t have a choice because of the last point there.
