Team Ellusive: A History

After much talk with Ender and Cast yesterday night (few hours), I decided to compile a brief history of Ellusive’s team history through my perspective. Now, before I go into this any further, I am going to mention that the purpose of this thread is to not create e-drama, but instead state some background for teams in the finals of ToG, explain newer teams the progression of making a team and getting into the competitive scene, and to clear up the air of a few rumors regarding the disbanding of Ellusive (a ToL/ToG team you probably never heard of). I will maintain a neutral tone, and merely say what I thought happened.

Some of you know me and some you don’t. I play thief. But that doesn’t matter. Also what doesn’t matter if my opinion is valid to you or not…I’m just speaking my thoughts. It’s something that people have been encouraging me to do recently.

This will probably be the most serious and heartfelt thread I will ever make in these forums. I don’t post much here. I will probably be trolled, get hated by a lot of the obvious culprits, and asked why anyone should care. People will accuse me of thinking that the only reason I’m making this thread is to gain public attention and because “I think I’m good, but in reality I’m bad”. I get that statement often. Even so, at this point I see more benefit that this thread will do than the bad. I want to tell you a story of getting way too involved with the game.

Pre-ToL 1 (somewhere around February?)

I had been mostly playing with pugs for the past year and a half, but a lot of prominent members in the NA community were saying that I should really/deserved to get a team. I was playing for fun, but was intrigued by how much I was improving at thief. I was asked by Good Fights to be their thief at the time, and I agreed. However, it was a last minute decision by Magic Toker to come back into the game and thus, I was teamless.

One day, I decided to form a team with Ender who had played numerous pugs with me at that time. Inevitably, we also picked up Cast, who was a very good friend of Ender. Needing 2 more players, we decided to have Physicks and Ozie join the team, as we both liked them as people and knew they were solid players. Ender unfortunately chose the team name as Ellusive (which is still something I am WTF at even today…like what kinda team name is that).

Anyways, we started playing together more often and often with other friends of ours, and saw ourselves improve with time. We started getting to know eachother and had many fun nights/convos where we just joked around or attempted to play our best in team que. We got along really well from my perspective. You see, Ozie and I were Canadian, Physicks and I were both studying medical related things, and Ender, Cast, and I could literally talk about anything that came up. The game was just a blast at that time.

Team: Physicks (engi), Ozie (guard), Cast (engi), Aeroxe (thief), Ender (mesmer)

Thanks for the read, Aeroxe. I read through this yesterday on my phone and didn’t have a chance to reply.

As you mention in your post, building a team isn’t just about mechanical skill or game knowledge – it’s also about personality. There are a lot of people that I’ve played with in the past that were very gifted players, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out on a personal level, and really, that’s OK. Ultimately, finding people you enjoy playing with and working towards a common goal is much more satisfying and rewarding than trying to shoehorn a group of individuals together and hoping for the best.

Up until recently there hasn’t been a lot of incentive for top-tier teams to stick together after an event such as ToL/ToG, but hopefully now as we have multiple planned LAN events through the next year, teams can start playing the long game, learning to grow together as a team rather than look for replacements at the first sign of adversity.

Anyways, good luck in the finals, Aeroxe. Maybe I’ll see you in Beijing.

Now that’s cool. I didn’t hear about that. Good to hear

he probably meant WTS.

Yep. China is just the first stop. We’ll also be hosting events in NA and EU.
