Strange Account Bifurcation

Way back I was invited to one of the closed beta events for GW2 and used an email address to make that account, lets refer to that address as ‘gmail’ -for example. It should also be noted that I had a preexisting GW1 account, and that was associated with a different address, lets call that one ‘edu.’

I did this with the understanding that I could link the accounts, and I no longer wanted my game account to be associated with the older address. As it happens I was able to link the accounts and now use ‘gmail’ to login to each game, GW1 and GW2.

The problem started when you first allowed us to change the account email address from the launcher when the game was released. The accounts were already linked, but at that point I was forced to use ‘edu’ to login to both games (as well as in beta before release, but after I had linked the account), but I needed ‘gmail’ to login and use the forums.

So when prompted by the launcher at release I tried to update my email address for my gameplay login to ‘gmail’ and immediately got the message that it was already in use. The accounts certainty were linked (I have the HoM stuff, etc), but I was forced to slightly alter my login email from the form ‘[email protected]’ to [email protected] to be able to disassociate ‘edu’ from my account. This is because your system doesn’t recognize that omitting certain punctuation from my ‘gmail’ address doesn’t actually differentiate it; I still receive mail from either variation at the same address.

So at this point (at launch) I was able to partially resolve my account email issue by dropping ‘edu’, but still to this day I have to login to the forums using [email protected] and the game using [email protected], which is a minor annoyance.

The bigger problem is that last month I updated my password, as requested. Now it appears that the password change is only linked to the side of my account that deals with the forums; it seems that my password for logging in to the game is still unchanged (which is concerning). I assume that this is due to the odd bifurcation that I’ve noticed in my account. Resolution would be much appreciated, thanks!
