Question about matchmaking?

I’m pretty ignorant about underlying mechanics and typically I just run with them.
I never usually question in other games when I’m thrown against a significantly stronger opponent or even a weaker one, but it seems a lot more inconsistent here so it peeks my curiosity.

I’m sure if I did a larger amount of research I’d be able to figure it out, but I feel like it can be answered with a simple question.

just as note this isn’t some sort of rage because I had bad matchings in games, it’s just pure curiosity while I’m not getting intoxicated and running around trying to enjoy solo queue as best I can without being overly serious about it (not that I want to spoil anyone’s game but because like others I’m not to happy with the current state of the game but still enjoying to mechanics of combat.)

Anyways onto the question.

I know everything is matched based on MMR, and typically there are a lot of imbalances within that. So I gotta ask does it match actual teams based on MMR? or is it just grabbing players from a pool within a certain ratio (or closest to) and then randomizes teams from the pool of players?

Team arena will match teams based off the average MMR. Solo arena will grab a poll of players based on individual MMR, and then put them into two teams based on that MMR.
