Preview Gear You Can't Equip

So why was it changed so you can’t preview gear that you can’t wear? I want to link something that looks cool to a friend and he can’t preview it or vice versa.

<Friend> Dude check this weapon out. [weapon]
<Me> Sorry I can’t preview it because ArenaNet won’t let me anymore. sigh
