Night capping? Intended?

I and many others would like to know if WvW scoring is working as intended.

The current situation is that the server with the biggest population in off-peak North American time on NA located servers is guaranteed to win their WvW matchup.

This is because even a dominant showing in primetime will be met with enough resistance to prevent the entire map being “all-capped.” By the time the prime timers log back in after going to sleep the server with the most off-peak (NA time) has accrued such a lead that the match is already decided. The servers will then even out again in POTENTIAL points only to have the off-peak dominance happen again overnight.

This is very bad for WvW. On Ehmry Bay it has demoralized a large number of casuals who usually won’t even bother recapping once they see the entire map blanketed in the enemy color the next day…

Is this a known issue or a non-issue?

WvW is intended to be a persistent 24 hour game.

In a large scale persistent game like this, you need friends and allies on at all hours to be able to do well. Some worlds will have issues finding enough people to be on during certain hours, but you also don’t need a lot of people to defend or take things back during low population hours.

We will be making a couple changes to scoring in the next build we do. The biggest change you’ll see is that we will be extending the score tick to 15 minutes instead of 5 like it is currently. As always, we will continue to monitor things to see if additional changes need to be made in the future.

Telling people they cant play during certain hours of the day is just not an option. Not everybody has a day job with 9-5 hours and can be on during prime time. Those people should be able to play anytime they want, just like the people who play during prime time.
