Nearly a month with no access to account due to being hacked + ban

It’s been about a month since my friend was hacked, and then banned.

It took a lot longer for ANet to even let him know what was going on with his account than what seemed like the majority of hacked accounts. He finally got his account back, and not long after ANet banned him for botting, even though they were fully aware it was because the account had been compromised.

ANet told him it would be a 10 day ban, it took them more than 10 days to unban him, and even while the account was supposed to be banned someone logged into it more than once and also changed his home server more than once. ANet told him they were “looking into it” and if problems continued after the ban was up they would refund him for the game as well as let him keep his account.

His ban was finally lifted, 2 seconds later his email was changed again (which was the original problem with getting “hacked”, ANet has/had no security what so ever for people to do this). It was not something on his end as he reformatted, has a new hard drive among other things like changing all his passwords to something completely new.

It has been almost a week since this happened and support has not responded to him at all. He tried live support and they denied the refund and wouldn’t help him with the issue.

Can someone PLEASE help him out already. This has been ridiculous and taking an absurd amount of time. I want to be able to play with my friend already. I always hear nothing but good things about ANet and how they really care and want to help out, but when it comes to my friend it seems as though they have left him out in the dust.

Account in question: Embossed.1267 (posting since he does NOT have access to his own account).

I’m sorry that your friend’s account was hacked. Please have him contact Support — support.guildwars2.com — and use “Ask a Question” to submit a ticket. An agent will help him get the account back. But it’s important to really secure that account. The CS team can offer advice on that but it may require taking a few steps to really ensure that the hacker doesn’t just bounce back again.

By the way, someone whose account is hacked is not told that they will be out for any more days than it takes to fix it. So he, or you, must have misunderstood to state, “ANet told him it would be a 10 day ban.”
