name ok for GW1 but not for GW2 ?

I’m having trouble getting my head around the fact that I played under the name (or a variation) of Olde Phartte in GW1 (and a few other games) but it has suddenly and inexplicably been banned in GW2. Especially in view of the grandfathering of names commitment. How do I get my name back. It’s age appropriate -i am closer to 70 than 60 – and was a comfort my old age, which is important as I have so few years left

Seriously, this is just a little bit over zealous and really uncalled for.

We are disallowing the use of names that represent bodily functions. With the huge community in Guild Wars 2, we’re not offering assured “grandfathering” of every single name from Guild Wars, because with a persistent world, we believe that it is even more incumbent upon us to uphold the Naming Policy.

It’s not likely that someone is going to say “Why is that ‘creative spelling’ for emitting flattus allowed in Guild War 2? Oh, the player probably was allowed to use it in Guild Wars, therefore it’s been grandfathered into GW2.” It’s just not reasonable to expect people to understand why an exception may have been made to a clear-cut and readily understood policy.

I’m sorry that you cannot make the name, but I fully understand why and hope, upon reflection, that you will as well.

Asked, answered, and locked. I understand you were able to use the name in the past, but this is, quite literally, a new game with new standards. No stranger who sees that name instinctively knows "Oh, this guy was in GW and was given a “bye” on the name." No one of a similar status thinks, “Well, that’s a bodily function that they’d block if it was spelled properly, but that’s such a cool use of ‘creative spelling’ that I can understand why it’s ok to use it here.”

I totally understand the vernacular. I completely agree that it’s not a horrendous name. But But it was reported, reviewed, and ascertained to be unacceptable. And when that happens once, it will likely happen again and again, and it’s not reasonable to expect special consideration on a repeat basis. I’d suggest you shrug, rename, and move on.

If you have other names of a similar type, I further suggest you contact Support and work with them to change them now. If you have not made the characters with those questionable names but intended to do so in the future, you might do that now and do a single, large-scale renaming. The team will work with you on this.
