Launcher *freezes* immediately and can't be closed

Ever since about 4PM today the launcher has been simply freezing upon opening (no crash, just never responds and has a black background). It freezes before it downloads any data for the launcher.

I’ve tried downloading the game again and installing in order to see if it’s something specific to my installation, but it simply does the same exact thing. I’ve been unable to play for most of the day because of this issue :/

@ChairGraveyard – I would recommend updating your Windows to Service Pack 1. You can do so by clicking the “Start” button, clicking “All Programs” and selecting “Windows Update.” I would recommend installing all the most critical updates for your system.

Next, as a troubleshooting step I would like for you to disable Windows Defender and/or Microsoft Security Essentials if you have this enabled as well.

Please let me know if either of these suggestions have any affect on your issue.
