Hi there,
I know there are a lot of threads about lag, but I can’t seem to find any that have any answers, and I wanted to write one about our issue with lag because it is obvious in our case that this is not due to ISP or the server.
Me and my BF wanted to start up GW2 again after being without internet for over two months after moving. I play on a 4 year old HP multimedia laptop that is almost at the verge of being held together by duct tape, that I also use for school, while he plays on a high end rig with three screens eyefinity and a 6 core CPU.
His computer is AMD based, but that doesn’t seem to spawn neither more nor less threads than Nvidia, so I don’t know if it’s of any consequence in this case.
The point is, we started the game up, and he experienced horrible lag, while my game ran smoothly. I was able to up the graphics from the recommended settings with no increase in lag. My boyfriend…not so lucky…
In fact, we tried to set his computer to run exactly the same settings as my laptop. It is STILL lagging! We tried setting it to minimal, and still there is lag. (we set down the resolution too…) We’ve no idea why… We updated everything we could think of, tweaked and tested, but no luck, his game just lags.
I was wondering if it could have anything to do with our IP addresses being too close (this caused trouble in Ragnarok 2), but nope, his game is just as laggy when mine isn’t running.
Does anyone have any suggestions? We’ve tried no shadows, we’ve tried setting all the settings involving other characters down to the minimum, we’ve basically tried setting every single thing to minimum, off or unmarked, but the framerate is the same and the lag is just as obvious.
It can’t be the server, when my game runs smoothly every time we log in. It is definitely not our ISP, we have 50/50 optic fibre from an ISP that is recommended all around… Every other game we’ve tried runs perfectly at high settings on his computer, so this is a mystery to us. We also have a new Asus RT-AC66U router and it is set up correctly… I just don’t get it.
Any answers are appreciated!
