Just wanted some feedback from the community.
So, I know I’ve had some other trouble with ANet before with some names, and I was ignorant about the naming policy at the time. Honestly, I just like to have a funny name and do it for the lolz. Making my friends and guildies laugh is what I enjoy the most.
Anyway, after reading a bunch of posts about people getting suspended for their names, from copyright infringements (which shouldn’t be an issue in the first place), to mild references, to obscenities (which make sense to sensor), it seems there is a lot of political correctness going on. I can’t help but think that ANet should spend time fixing bugs and other issues than concentrating on people’s names.
Anyway, I don’t want to cause ANet anymore trouble, since that’s not my intention, but I can’t move on with a better name until I have people vet my old name, and make me understand how it actually is offensive.
""*Mr V Card Stealer*,” which also is in violation of the policy."
So, by V Card, I know what it usually means, but in my guild, I had a back story about stealing a valentines day card, which was why I thought it would be a funny double entrondre character name to have. I think it’s in the gray area, and doesn’t necessarily meet reasons for offense.. Also, it was a thief… so stealer went perfectly with it.
Thoughts?
And, as a reference, below are the naming policies, which I am not memorizing so as to not infringe upon them.
“Have offensive racial, ethnic, national, or cultural connotations
Include hate speech or bigoted slurs
Reference sexual acts or real life violence
Are pornographic
Make inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions
Reference illegal drugs or activities
Reference religious or historical figures
Reference real-life people
Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products
Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules”"

-- but no one else who sees the name in the game is going to know, or ask about, to come up with some personal excuse for the use of a term that you know, in a general sense, is considered offensive.
