Gw1 Linking accounts

Hi,

I recently submitted a question to support to ask about something, here are the contents “I used to have a gw1 account but I’ ve tried many times but had no luck recovering it. It seems my account isn’t even in the system anymore somehow so I’ve given up. However, a friend who used to play gw1 has offered to give me his account to link to my current gw2 account. Is that okay? I believe I still need to purchase an expansion pack on his gw1 account in order to allow me to link it (since he stop playing sometime before the last expansion) but if it’s allowed i’ll gladly pay the small price.”

I got a response something along the lines of “Hello,

I must inform you that it is a violation of the User Agreement to buy, sell, trade or otherwise transfer ownership of any Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 game account and/or serial code. We do not sanction, authorize or assist with the transfer of accounts, regardless of the relationship of the two parties involved.

I recommend against linking the accounts together, because it could result in one or both being permanently suspended.

I only ask on this forum again because I remember reading about certain people with similar situations with either their brother or a friend not playing gw2 so they gave them their gw1 account to link and did not seem to encounter any problems. Since there doesn’t seem to be any way I can recover my own gw1 account (i’ve tried several times, it just doesn’t seem to exist even though I use the very same email as I do with my gw2 account), if possible, I would like to be able to take up my friends offer of giving me his account but if the rules say no then I can live with it.

I cannot believe the account is gone. Please discuss retrieving YOUR account with Support. Pass-along, resold, or traded accounts are one of the major causes of support tickets. The account into which you invest your time and possibly your gems can be lost at any time. Please get your own account back; I really think support can help you do that. I would strongly suggest you not risk involvement with an account that you will never really own.
