Friend's account compromised - unable to get anywhere with support

I’ve been helping a friend of mine with learning difficulties (dyspraxia – which in his case affects his ability to read and write as well as his memory) to regain access to his Guild Wars 2 account and hit upon a brick wall.
He pre-ordered Guild Wars 2, tried out the beta and got his account compromised and the email address changed on launch day in addition to his email inbox, which was cleared out up to early June. Unfortunately this included his order confirmation email.
Arenanet support repeatedly asks in every correspondence we have with them for the serial code and the account name, which he didn’t take note of as he didn’t think it was important for logging in (irresponsible, I know). He does however, have a bank statement, showing a payment for the product and the number of the card he used to purchase it, along with an email confirming his early beta access.
Is there anything we can do to recover this account? It was linked to his GW1 account, which is the only reason (along with price) that he hasn’t got a new copy.
