my friend is having trouble getting the password reset. She is unable to get any of the information the support team asks for, like character name and the long ID code since the email she used is no longer running. Anyone have any suggestions on how she could get her account back or even a refund?

Your friend should contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist her. The answer is posted on the support site in addition to being sent through email, so she can check the site instead of waiting for a mail.

For tips on what information to provide in a ticket, please read this post and provide as much as possible to expedite the ticket.

Please reread my comments. I have provided a long list of information that she can provide to help her at least try to verify ownership.
