down the hatch killing priates at the end

OK I have been trying this for so many times…..in the Down the hatch instance, I have no problem doing the drinking game, I am able to rescue the princess, but when it comes to killling of the rest of the pirates to get her out they seem to have instant total regeneration. I have killed off both gun turrets , I have the char with me, I have “princess” with me…but the last 3 pirates seem to take no damage or the instantly heal?
