Hi everyone!

There have been a large number of story bugs reported, so we’ve written up some of the common issues that have been reported for story steps and what you can expect/do to work around them.

General Advice for Reporting Story Bugs
Please provide your story quest name, current objective, race, class, and level. The more details, the better! Also, keep in mind that we are constantly implementing fixes for reported issues. Something that was blocked for you a few days ago may have been fixed, so please verify that your issue is still occurring before you report it.

We take difficulty issues seriously, so please report those as well!

Issue: I have no story!
If you’ve just completed Chapter 5 (helping a lesser race), and the story quest area is blank, go to Lion’s Arch, and it should fix the issue and give you an active quest.

Issue: My story is stalled! (Chapter 5 specific)
Similar to above, if you go to Lion’s Arch it will fix the issue. The bad news: it will skip Chapter 5 and start you in Chapter 6. Unfortunately, this is a result of some fixes we put in and can’t be reversed.

Issue: it skipped me from story X to a L48 story quest!
Related to the above issue, if you were playing in a group to get past some of the stories blocked by bad character data, the only fix was to restore your character and advance you to Chapter 6.

  • Note: For the above issues, we’ve fixed the bug that causes them so they shouldn’t happen any more, but some characters might be bugged and have to reset by going to Lion’s Arch. Players who completed the battle for Fort Trinity pre-fix may experience some weirdness with it losing track of the story track they were on.
  • While this bug is fixed, we can’t retroactively set you on the correct quest steps, rewrite your journal, etc.

Why can’t I restart my story?
While we would like to provide this option, with all the branching and choices we provide, allowing you to replay quests could introduce too many bugs. (i.e. if you choose to save NPC A, then replay the story and save NPC B instead, a much later story might need to know which NPC you saved.)

Thank you for your understanding as we work out these remaining issues. We appreciate you taking the time to report these bugs!
