How formating using a monospaced font can be of use on a forum:
- Providing data as a table. It’s not possible to align into accurate columns unless all the characters have the same width (or specific table formating markup is available).
- Sometimes an ASCII type diagram is all that’s needed to convey information, but without monospaced formating being available, images have to be made/uploaded/used instead.
- Representing commands that are to be typed into the game/other software, without having to use quotes (that some people may end up typing in).
