Character name reservation

So this is my problem. I have 2 guild wars 1 accounts. I had to get another one because my main account was one that was given to me by a friend who stopped playing. After deleting his characters and making my own. I continued to play the game till figuring out I could not link this account to guild wars 2 for HoM because it was not my email address. With no way to contact this friend and unable to link the accounts I was forced to buy a new account with all the expansions. Now with this new account and my HoM linkable to my guild wars I was happy. When hearing about the name reservations for guild wars 2 I deleted the name from my main account and put them on my 2nd HoM account. Now when typing my character names after character creation it says the name is reserved for another player. I have that character name on my linked HoM 2nd account. So why can’t I use that name if I have it on that linked account? Can anyone please help me?

I’ve only gotten this one automated email. When will I ever get in contact with an actual person, who could help me? At least a response.

Yes, Cord, you definitely will hear from someone. But right now, we’re trying very hard to work on game issues of a major scale: people who can’t get into the game, players who were hacked.

I appreciate that you’re fond of your character names and wish to retain them. Please bear with us and know the team will help you as soon as they are able to do so.

The quote above is accurate. We did not specify “headstart or launch day” and in the overall scope of things, it’s still early days. You’re welcome to continue to try for the name, but I cannot say for certain when it would become available.

We did not specify “headstart or launch day”

http://www.arena.net/blog/reserving-your-character-name-for-guild-wars-2

[…] and you must create a Guild Wars 2 character with the same name as your Guild Wars character during the Headstart Access period or on launch day.

After launch day (and after we work through support tickets filed on launch day), we’ll free up the millions of unclaimed names […]

I think that’s the reason why everybody thinks it should have long ended – or is there still support tickets on that?

You’re right. There are two statements there, and I think that answers the question. Thanks for the help.

I just want to point out something. If the name isn’t available, it’s because someone used it in Guild Wars within the last 8 months, maybe is using it still. So I’m sort of not seeing why you’d be so eager to nab someone else’s name. Why not come up with something else? I mean, after all, as we say, “This is my story.”

An estimate time would really be appreciated.

Sorry, we don’t have one yet, but we’ll update when we do!

so are you saying that if that person who is using a name in “Guild Wars 1” and is still playing using that name in “Guild Wars 1” that the name will never be free for “Guild Wars 2” use ? Even if that person never creates a character with that name in “Guild Wars 2” i surely hope not

Oh no, that’s not what I’m saying. They need to make a GW2 account before the name reservations are cancelled.

I don’t want to use a name that someone might someday want to use again, i want to use a name that I myself have reserved – unfortunately with my second GW1 account.

It’s not a matter of “nabbing someone else’s name.” It’s a matter of nabbing my name from my second GW account. If it was someone else’s name I wouldn’t care.

Good point — I hadn’t thought of that.

In my case, that “someone else” is my wife, and she has no intention of buying GW2 herself. However, as these names have a special meaning to us, I would like to be able to use 2 of the character names from her GW1 account for GW2.

Another good point.

Thanks for the insights!

We do not have a timeframe for this. We do understand that for some people, this is a significant question, but we’d also appreciate if these posts don’t arise every day, when a simple check through the Search Engine will show that … we do not have a timeframe for this.

When we do have a timeframe, we’ll be sure to update this thread and note it!
