Changed password and now can't log into GW2.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to post this in case someone else has dealt with this same issue. I just tried logging into GW2 and the game asked me to change my password. I changed it and received the big green Your Password Has Been Changed. So, I then tried to log in and the game responded with an error saying that either my name or my password was incorrect. I was using my e-mail address as my account name, so I figured I’d change it to my actual account name. I plugged that in, added the new password, and still no luck.

I then tried my old password. And pretty much every combination I could think of, to no avail.

My old password allowed me to log into the forums and access my account but I can’t seem to change my password. I’m not even certain what password I should be inputting, my new or old password. I tried both, on the off chance that I might be able to change it and then log in, but again, this has proved fruitless. All that happens when I click the Save Changes button is that it refreshes the page. It would be wonderful if Anet was able to develop a website that better communicated exactly what was going on with the password change. I am furious with myself that I ever opted to change my password in the first place. I had a 23-key password. sigh

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a delay in the registering of new passwords? I opened a trouble ticket but haven’t yet heard back. So I figured I’d check with the forums.

I thought I could just recover my account, but for whatever reason, I can’t find the e-mail with my serial code. I’m usually very fastidious about hanging onto serial codes, particularly for games I love, so I have no idea where the heck it has disappeared to. Ugh. Anyone know if there’s a location on my hard-drive where my serial code is being stored? I am at my wits end, at the moment. I was hoping to get my dailies done today, considering I’ve got my eye on some of that brilliant new Ascended gear, but if I don’t get any traction soon, I’m gonna give up. sigh

Any help would be much appreciated!

Warm Regards,

M.

P.S. I just went through all of my emails that were sent by Anet or Guild Wars 2, and I have no e-mail that provided a serial code. I don’t EVER erase e-mails. Bleh.

I believe you are hitting the security wall, so to speak, where we limit password attempts and password reset requests to prevent someone from stealing an account through unlimited attempts.

If you wait two hours and carefully type your log-in name and password, you should be fine. A large number of the tickets that we receive reveal that folks typo a lot. They may think they are typing the password on the account, but they’re off by a letter or number, or they forgot that they used a capital letter instead of lowercase.

Support will be happy to help you, but I suggest that you discontinue attempts (or at least wait a few hours) because repeated attempts will not be effective.
