I’ve recently had a coupled of my in-game friends send me stuff via mail, and I cannot receive any of the items or messages that are sent. Can anyone help me figure out what’s wrong?

Wow.. thanks guys =) I would think the game would just delete the oldest message but I guess not.
Nah, we never know what mails you might want to keep for sentimental reasons. 
So we leave it up to the individual mailbox user to do the deletions. As you found, once you remove some of the “white envelope” player mails, the other mails drop down into the box.
