Can we ban asura from the pax tournament?

Anyone who has been watching the matches will have noticed that the vast majority of players are asura with the odd human. I of course understand that asura are popular for pvp because their small size makes it harder to read their attacks. Problem is that this also makes watching the game less enjoyable because all you see are little asura running around without really seeing their animations well.
.
The current asura players wouldn’t be at any disadvantage having to make a new character since they wouldn’t need to grind for gear or anything but we would all have a better viewing experience.

We believe the majority of the issue is the effects spam. News on that front coming VERY soon. Once that is out of the way we can start to address other concerns.

Jon, I would love it if instead of using so many particle effects we instead used more weapon trails and .swh effects.

They are just as pretty (A lot of them in the game seem /hand painted/) and don’t clog up the entire screen with explosions.

As I mentioned at some point earlier, we are working on a system that basically weights these effects and tries to make the noisier ones less noisy. This system is in a good place right now on our development servers so expect to hear about it fairly soon.

It will definitely try and bring out the streaks and such a bit compared to the chaos storms, for example.

That’s probably a good first step. However, it’s fairly common for competitive games to have standardized avatar models.

Example: Unreal Tournament.

I wouldn’t put it past the community to request this as a feature since it does make sense in the scheme of things.

Didn’t you just basically request it? :P

I’ll bring it up when I get back, although I know we haven’t explored it much and there will be some issues.

Yeah this system is game wide and like I said, you won’t even need to be that patient as we are close to being ready to talk about it. Should help PvP, WvW, big events, dungeons, etc.

No, we’re not banning Asuras.

For several reasons. The main one at this point being that the EU Qualifiers have already ended, and it would be completely unfair to suddenly ban Asuras just for the NA Qualifiers.

The hitbox is the same.

Please refer to the snip I took of our release page (attached). Here’s the link for the full page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/august-06-2013/

This should help address the concerns about effects covering animations.

Also, note that when I mentioned the hit box, it was in response to the post before mine. I didn’t have time to quote and make it fancy. I’m fully aware that it’s not completely to do with the hit box.

Ok guys, since you are all only focusing on tiny portions of my posts, I am just going to stop posting to prevent further confusion.

I will say again though; I don’t want anyone to be confused that I think hit boxes or skill effects are the only things that matter. This is very much NOT what I was saying. Not at all.
