Banned for Offensive Behavior

I have just been banned for offensive behavior. I am sure this is due to the preview code bug that was going around. I did not “abuse” this bug, I pasted it into map chat when it was first discovered to see if it was actually the cause of the problem. As soon as it DCed, I reported it with the in game bug feature, and sent a message to Jon Peters (who was the only online dev I know of) on twitch. For doing this, and warning others of the code in game chat, while being the victim of multiple other people abusing the code, I get a two week ban. I believe that the punishment does not fit the crime in this case. I could even accept a couple days ban for doing what I did, but two weeks is a little harsh.

I’m looking into this now.

Back in the day, people would say “Hit ALT F-4 for [insert really cool stuff here]” I became inured to the temptation.

I do understand that putting crash codes into the game hoping to lure people to use them is a particularly childish form of griefing, and it irritates me that people do it. I guess that personally, I’d view an player who did it once differently than someone who did it multiple times, or who told others to do it.

We are continuing to look into this whole issue. And you need not submit a ticket about this. Remember: We have game logs.

Thanks for your patience.

Apologies for inferring otherwise.

No worries. We’ll get it sorted with or without a ticket.

Hold on: What message are you guys getting in the game? “Offensive” behavior? Or “unacceptable” behavior? I’m working on in-game messaging, and I’d really appreciate if you could let me know about that.

Thanks.

Well for goodness sakes! That’s not what it’s supposed to say! Thanks for the info, I’ll hope to get that fixed in an upcoming (non emergency) build.

This has been sorted. Those who did this just once were shown mercy, consideration, or understanding, because we believe that one time could be an innocent error. Those who did it more times will serve a suspension of variant length, depending on the depths to which they sank in relation to misbehavior.

You know, it’s the whole “punishment fits the crime” thing, and I think it’s a pretty solid decision!
