2nd name change

Upon logging in today I was forced to rename one of my characters (don’t ask for the name that’s not the point), I thought this was odd as no explanation was given – I renamed the character with a very similar name and continued to play.

After talking with a friend about it I realized my old name may have been changed due to Anet’s naming policy and thus the 2nd name would also be in violation because of the similarities.

My questions is: Was naming policy to blame and more importantly if this is going to get me into trouble with Anet what course of action should I take? Report myself in-game perhaps?

If you feel the name may be offensive, contact Support and they will help you change it. Better that than another report, another time-out, and another mark on your account. Because infractions last a lifetime, and there are certain points at which a “Repeated Violation” situation results in outright account closure. Naturally, that takes more than a couple of name issues, but I think it’s best to keep one’s account as clean as possible.

Couldn’t think of a name so I was being dumb and putting in absurd names in the character creation and seeing if it would reject it. One took and now I’m on my 3rd name offense and got the 72 hour banishment, didn’t know I could report myself or I would have. 72 hours is too long for this kind of offense.

I’m sorry that you feel that way, but you don’t know how many people you’ve offended with random name selections and three times? We’re kind. We’re tolerant. But we’re understandably protective of our community, and a 72-hour block is reasonable for repeated violations.

Please use care in the future.
