Listened in on Lurkin’s interview with the class designer (Charles Dunn) who was on the S8 campfire chat, and he mentioned that they would like to hear what players are looking for in a skill tree update. Noting, larger changes means more time taken and I’m not certain they want to reinvent the entire thing (inferred).
My take is simply this: more skill variety. I think it comes in a few ways.
- Add more baseline skills, like whirlwind and frost bolt. Give players more options here.
- Add the ability for players to customize the skills via the tree in more interesting ways than choosing one of two upgrade paths. For example, one season playing with Fireball looking and playing like a lightning-ball (and getting the lightning scalar tags instead), and maybe another season a frost-ball. It would be the same skill with changes in visual aesthetics and scalar tags.
- Enable certain builds that come up short now. For example many DOT builds are behind their hit build counterparts. Give us some kiss / curse options that empower the DOT play style while weakening the HIT play style (and maybe vise versa), all within the skill tree.
What say you on what you would like to see the tree look like?
