New Character Carry-over

So since the patch I completed the beta with a Demon Hunter. When I went back to play I was having those weird logon issues (there was a thread for it in the TS forum.) The logon issues mysteriously cleared up, but when I started a new character I had ~4000 gold, and the blacksmith was already available for crafting. I couldn't craft anything since I couldn't get mats, but all the menus were there.
