Salvaged a sash got a rare crafting material

The item i salvaged is one step better than a white (blue? purple?), and i received a rare "fallen tooth", which says on the tooltip, only obtained from a rare (yellow?).

I was shift salvaging, no rare was salvaged during that process.

Not sure if salvaging has a slight chance to get a rare or not.
