Why can't I post on the new forums?

I've bought Lost Vikings 1-2, Rock 'n Roll Racing, Warcraft 1-2, Starcraft 1, Diablo 1 and 2 (with LoD), WoW subscriber for 5 years... and I do not deserve the right to post in the new forums.

Has Blizzard gone full-on business already, like EA and Activision? Profits should NEVER be more important than the customer. Seems like every business these days has forgotten this.

It's an issue of security, as well as the new Battle.net platform.

If someone has no investment in their posting account then there's a far less of a reason for them to follow the rules. We could have absolutely opened up the website and not allowed anyone to post, but we wanted to have some activity, so we're allowing StarCraft II and active World of Warcraft accounts for now.

StarCraft (1), Diablo (1), and Diablo II do not have secure keys, so we're not willing to accept them as valid on the new community site. Similarly, a lapsed WoW subscription may or may not have any value to someone.

Essentially what we want is for people to think very hard about violating the forum guidelines, and ultimately decide not to do so because there is a meaningful consequence if they do. And in this case they should really think about it because if you're banned from one of the new community site forums you'll have to literally buy a new copy of StarCraft II or World of Warcraft to post again. Our intent isn't to get people to buy new copies of the game, it's to encourage them to not break the rules. That same thing can't be said for the other games you mentioned.

And really to do it right, even if everyone gave their word they would not violate the forum guidelines with their Diablo II keys, we still wouldn't be able to let you post there because it would be weeks or months of effort to get the new community sites and new Battle.net to even be able to communicate with the Diablo II servers, verify they're valid keys, or pull character data.

Soon enough people will start getting actual Diablo III beta licenses for the new forums. We hope you enjoy the content on the site until release (or until you get into the beta??), you just may not be able to post. That's ok, all the cool kids are on this forum anyway.

We'll be keeping these forums open though until game release, and will be staying active here.

I want this question asnwered Bash, you said WoW was acceptable as it has secure keys, so why arent non-active WoW owners allowed to post?

Because that's just the rule for World of Warcraft licenses posting on the forums, has been since release, and it carried over to the Diablo III site since it's the same underlying Battle.net system.

It's something we've discussed changing, but there's no plans to do so at this time. It's actually quite a bit of work to change it.
