Arreat Summit in D3/Nebu or don't bother

Talking about this on the incgamers site, the comments on the WoW journal thing, I think it is rather a shame if they don't have something like the arreat summit for Diablo III.

Then again, if Nebu isn't the one doing it, then it probably isn't worth doing. He compiled the stuff for the WC2/WC3 guides as well, and if you check the arreat summit, you'll see that it is constantly updated.

March 30th this year. That's dedication. The arreat summit is damn near as complete as it gets, even compared to a wiki, for pure game data without lore and stuff like that. It's an amazing asset. They have strategy stuff up for SC2 but it's a bit on the shallow end, although that game is incredibly high-end and I wouldn't really expect more from it. Nebu has also been adding to a type of WoW mini-summit for years now, but it's also very general. Nothing compares to what we got for D2.

So, if they did have this for D3, it would be really cool to have it in-game. People are just going to alt-tab and look it up anyway, but if you had it in-game, then you also have some advantages.

1. The developers can throttle content in a way by only showing you in the "summit" what you have already unlocked. So if you want to know about a monster, you have to kill it first. If you want to know about tower shields, you have to have had one in your inventory first.

2. Great way to prevent spoilers while still having players able to look up what they need to know.

3. Keeps the player in the game, and on battle.net.

4. Could easily tie into long-term, meaningful achievements.

So maybe not in release, but this would be incredible. As long as the person who assembled the information was at least as awesome as Nebu or, even better, Nebu himself.

I forwarded this thread to Nebu he said thank you for the kind words, and that they're currently working on a smaller strategy guide for the StarCraft II site but have big plans for Diablo III.
