I wish someone would just tell us

There are a lot of questions on this forum that could easily be answered by anyone working on the game, and will not spoil anything at all. For example, whether or not basic attacks produce spirit for the monk.

Yes.

But, once you get a combo skill (level 4) I don't think there's any need to use a basic attack again.
