If we were to take that hour, or hour and a half, take it out of the game, and we were to go to our audiences - for whom we have their credit card information and a direct relationship - and say to them, 'Would you like to have the StarCraft movie?'... and say we have this great hour and a half of linear video that we'd like to make available to you at a $30 or $20 price point, you'd have the biggest opening weekend of any film ever,

Within the next five years you are likely to see us do that... There will be a time when we capitalize on the relationship that we have with our audience and deliver them something that is really extraordinary and let them consume it directly through us instead of through theatrical distribution.

After opening the launcher and clicking the "play" button, when the game opened an error message popped up saying "this cinematic is not available" with the EULA behind it. I clicked ok on the message and accepted the EULA. Because I got the error message I tried opening the cinematics using the button on the right, but for all three movies the same error message popped up saying the cinematics were not available.

Alright, so we've completed the investigation and it appears that from this point forward, the digital download will no longer include the game Pre-rendered Cinematics/Cutscenes as part of the download. As such the Wrath loading cinematic, Wrathgate, etc... will no longer be installed with the game when using the digital streaming download. This may change in the future(no promises, heh) however for right now they are not part of the digital download.

at this time the cinematics are not available from Blizzard either by direct download or by the digital download client. Running the repair tool will also not result in them being downloaded so at this time either independent download or copying from an existing Wrath of the Lich King Installation is needed however you can always view the cinematics at any time by going to Blizzard's youtube page.

So what was that about Blizzard not being beholden to Activision again? And no, "they stopped having people download the cinematics because it saves bandwidth and costs Blizzard less money" is not the answer. The Blizzard Downloader is a peer-to-peer client. Your internet connection does most of the heavy lifting.

Everyone is still getting their cinematics, the background downloader is just delivering them in future patches after all the critical game data is delivered.

The End.
