Is High Monster Density Best for D3's Future?

I know fighting large hordes of enemies can be fun and look cool but is it really the best option for D3? My concern has to do with skill diversity. Imo D3 has slowly become an AoE or bust game. Skills that used to be great back when D3 initially released have quickly been replaced by AoE skills for efficiency (ie hungering arrow).

I currently play D3 on PC and PS3. I think the monster density on PS3 is the most balanced between the two because many single target skills are actually viable in endgame. However, I do know the density is lower on console because of hardware limitations and that the PS4 version will have higher densities.

What do you guys think? Is the current monster density on PC in a good place?
