Enlighten a noob: why complain about the exploit?

Looking at the profiles of people complaining about the exploit, they aren't even near the level of those who are defending it.
It seems to me the only effect the exploit had was on the leaderboards. So it sucks if you're competing on the leaderboards, but the people complaining aren't even close to being on said leaderboards.
I don't understand why people are complaining about something that doesn't seem to negatively impact anybody.
